University student, 18, known to his friends as Mr Muscles dies 'after taking fat-burning pills' he boasted about on Facebook

  • Sarmad Alladin, 18, taken to hospital hours after praising tablets
  • University for the Creative Arts tells students: 'Stop using them'
  • Pills contain the drug DNP, which has been linked to several deaths

  • A university student known as 'Mr Muscles' has died after apparently taking 'lethal' bodybuilding pills to help him lose weight.
Fitness fanatic Sarmad Alladin, 18, who had posted snaps of his new muscles online, was taken to hospital just hours after praising the fat-burning tablets called DNP on Facebook.
Mr Alladin, an international student and son of an Indian millionaire, called an ambulance as he suddenly collapsed.

He was living in university accommodation in Epsom, Surrey, while attending the specialist art and design university in nearby Farnham.
A friend told The Sun: 'He wasn't the type to put something like that into his body, so clearly they're misleading. I've cried so much since he died.'
Last week the University for the Creative Arts warned its students: 'It has come to the University's attention that some very dangerous weight-loss and body-building drugs could be circulating among students.

'If you have bought or obtained Dinitrophenol or Dymetadrine tablets online or anywhere else, please stop using them immediately. The drugs are potentially lethal.'
Vice-chancellor Dr Simon Ofield-Kerr said: 'As a university we are devastated by the untimely and tragic passing of one of our students, Sarmad Alladin. Our sympathies are with his family and friends at this difficult time.'
Last night Mr Alladin's family, who flew to UK from Hyderabad, were awaiting the results of a post mortem

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: ''Surrey Police received reports of the sudden death of an 18-year-old man at Epsom General Hospital on Wednesday, February 13.
'The man, who is from Epsom, was brought into the hospital around 4am and was pronounced dead at 6.20am.
'Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained but there is nothing to suggest any third party involvement.
'Officers are liaising with Coroner’s Office and a post mortem will be held in due course.

DNP is sold mostly over the internet under a number of different names but contains 2, 4-Dinitrophenol.
It is marketed mainly to bodybuilders as a weight loss aid as it is thought to dramatically boost metabolism.
The Food Standards Agency has told consumers not to take pills containing any level of DNP after a second death was linked to the substance.

The manufactured drug is yellow and odourless and was previously used as a herbicide and fungicide. It was launched as a slimming aid in the U.S. in the 1930s but then banned in 1938, due to the severe side-effects.
According to a study published last year in the Journal of Medical Toxicity, in medical literature has attributed 62 deaths to DNP.
The study authors from the Whittington Hospital in London, wrote: 'DNP is reported to cause rapid loss of weight, but unfortunately is associated with an unacceptably high rate of significant adverse effects.'
In 2008, Selena Walrond from Croydon, south London, died after taking DNP she had purchased online.
The yellow pills had sent her heart-rate racing and temperature soaring. She was found by her mother Anjennis trying to cool down the next day.
She was taken to hospital but died eight hours later from a heart attack.
Croydon Coroner's Court heard that Selena had taken a gram of the drug the day before she died.
At the time her mother said: 'I'll never forget her yellow fingernails and skin  -  the drug was sweating out of her.
'Selena's life has been cruelly snatched away, all because she was desperate to lose weight. DNP is lethal. If you want to lose weight, do it the sensible way.'
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.

BREAKING NEWS: Liverpool striker Borini suffers suspected dislocated shoulder

The 21-year-old summer signing has been blighted by injuries in his debut Anfield season and now looks set for a further spell on the sidelines following his collision with Bartley
Fabio Borini limped off injured in Liverpool's 5-0 thrashing of Swansea on Sunday afternoon with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

The Italian forward had only been on the pitch for eight minutes before colliding with Swans centre-back Kyle Bartley in a sliding challenge. The 21-year-old immediately let out a scream of pain as Bartley slid over his left arm leaving Borini to trudge off down the tunnel at Anfield.

The incident was the only sour point in a dominant and impressive Reds victory over a weakened Michael Laudrup side, who have one eye on their Capital One Cup final next weekend.

Borini has been plagued by injuries since joining Liverpool from Roma in the summer and spent three months on the sidelines with a broken foot. He made his return to first-team action at Old Trafford on January 6th but now looks set for a further spell in the treatment room.

A first half penalty from Steven Gerrard set the tone, before Phillipe Coutinho marked his full Liverpool debut with a goal immediately after half-time. Jose Enrique, Luis Suarez and another penalty, this time taken by Daniel Sturridge ensured Brendan Rodgers' team rebounded from defeat to West Brom on Monday and rise to seventh in the Premier League.

Drake was not allowed Into Hollywood Club Because 'Chris Brown was Partying'

It was recently in the news that Chris Brown and Drake are suing each other over a New York City nightclub brawl. Nightclub owners are now wary of what may come out of Brown and Drake being together in a club, so Drake was denied entry into a nightclub on Wednesday night.
Drake was turned away at the door Playhouse because Brown was already inside. Sources say bouncers sent Drake on his way because Breezy was already partying at a table inside … and they wanted to avoid any possible brawl scenarios.

Brown, it was learnt was inside the club celebrating an anniversary party for some clothing brand called Popular Demand. The bouncers aware Brown was inside when Drake showed up around midnight asked Drake to party somewhere else that night.
It was obvious the promoters and the nightclub wanted to avoid what happened at W.i.P nightclub in NYC last summer when Chris and Drake’s entourage nearly destroyed the place with flying bottles.

Pope Benedict to resign at the end of the month, Vatican says

    • NEW: The pope is resigning "because of advanced age"
    • NEW: The pope says his strength in the last few months "has deteriorated"
    • Benedict has been pope since 2005
    • The last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415
Rome (CNN) -- Pope Benedict XVI will resign on February 28, his spokesman Father Federico Lombardi told CNN Monday.
The 85-year-old pope is resigning "because of advanced age," Benedict told the cardinals of the Catholic Church on Monday.
"Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me," the pope told the cardinals, according to the Vatican.
The last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415. He did so to end a civil war within the church in which more than one man claimed to be pope.
Benedict, the 265th pope, is the sixth German to serve as pope and the first since the 11th century. He became pope in 2005.
He has led church after the third-longest papacy in church history and during a time in which the church is declining in his native Europe but expanding in Africa and Latin America.
Benedict's time as pope has been marked with a series of scandals and controversies, including hundreds of new allegations of sexual abuse by priests.

Research Shows that sèx Does Not Make You Lose Weight

The latest study has dispelled previous held notions about sèxual activity in relation to exercise.  Burning love apparently does not equate to burning fat. A new study from the University of Alabama at Birmingham says the average sèx act burns only about 21 calories.
The study, published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, contradicts many long-standing claims that sèxual activity is a vigorous, fat-burning workout. Funded in part by the National Institutes of Health, the study results found that “false and scientifically unsupported beliefs about obesity are pervasive in both scientific literature and the popular press.”

Most online claims about the calorie burning potential of sexual activity are based on one-hour increments, whereas this study worked off an average time span of six minutes per sèxual encounter, reports The Sideshow.
The study’s director, Dr. David Allison, who also serves as director of the university's Nutrition Obesity Research Centre, tested a number of theories in his study, including whether physical education classes actually improved a child’s health and whether skipping breakfast or snacking contributed to weight gain.
“As health professionals, we should hold ourselves to high standards so that public health statements are based on rigorous science," Allison said in a statement. “The evidence is what matters.
However, CBS News notes that some fellow experts question the motivations behind the study, noting that some of the participants received funding from sources including Coca-Cola, the McDonald’s Global Advisory Council and two obesity drug manufacturers—Vivus and Arena Pharmaceuticals.
Allison responds that his team’s research was motivated by a desire to counter health theories propagated as fact by self-proclaimed health experts.
"From social media outlets like Facebook, to mainstream television news to dietetics and nutrition textbooks, these myths are perpetuated, irrespective of the scientific evidence," study co-author Dr. Krista Casazza told CBS News. "As scientists, we have the responsibility to present the evidence as it exists without inflating ideas and contributing to popular misconceptions. As a registered dietitian, I feel that providing evidence-based statements about weight loss is essential."

50 Cent to feature in a Nollywood Movie

If what we hear is true then American rapper, 50 Cent is on his way to Nigeria to feature in a flick, which would be produced and directed by Emeka Ike. A source close to Ike disclosed that the movie is a spin off of the actor’s involvement with the training of ex-militants from the Niger Delta, a project he is so dedicated to. “This is a big one for Nollywood. As you read this, plans have been concluded to bring 50 Cent to Nigeria to feature in a new movie. And guess what?

He would be starring alongside Nigerian big names including ex-militants who have renounced violence for peace. The ex-militants underwent special training in acting, cinematography and the basics of filmmaking and production under Emeka Ike in Ghana.
This is the first of such films; many more are on the way. The objective is to practically demonstrate how movies could be used as a tool for empowering restive Nigerian youths,” the source states. Skoops further learnt that work on the movie will begin before the end of the first quarter of this year.

That is a good development no doubt
