Stop using soft drinks to take drugs – UNILORIN pharmacist warns

A pharmacist, Busayo Idowu of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Ilorin
Teaching Hospital (UITH), warned on Saturday that taking drugs with beverages such as soft drinks could have adverse effects.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin, Idowu said that drugs, if taken with soft drinks might affect the absorption of the drugs. The expert noted that most soft drinks were acidic, which could decrease the anti bacterial action of tetracycline as they containcarbonates. Idowu warned further that such acidic drinks when combined with drugs could cause adverse reaction to patients.
According to him, absorption of some drugs such as aspirin, ketoconazole and phenytoin
could be affected also when taking with acidic beverage. He added that such drugs were best absorbed at highly acidic levels when taken orally.
“Acidic beverages delay the absorption rate and action of Erythromycin”, he said. He advised that drugs should preferably be used with water as it had the properties capable of eliminating unwanted effects. I word is enough for the wise.

'I will never get a facelift!' Kim vows to avoid plastic surgery... then is bathed in her own blood as she has a 'vampire facial'

It might look like a scene from horror movie Carrie.
But this is the moment Kim Kardashian gets a BLOOD facial on Sunday's episode of her reality show Kourtney and Kim Take Miami.

The star was seen trying out the latest beauty technique.
'I love trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful,' she said.
A large needle drew blood from her arm before the sample was spun in a machine to remove the platelets.
The blood was then splattered into Kim's face using nine tiny little acupuncture-style needles.
But first she had to slap on some numbing cream in a bid to ease the pain.
The results left her looking like she had been in the classic horror flick - or a car crash, with blood spots all over face.
'It stings a little,' the medic who administered the treatment warned.
Best pal Jonathan Cheban looked like he was about to pass out as he watched Kim get the procedure - which he had originally told her about.
'Owww,' she wailed. 'Oh my God. I will never get a facelift if it feels like that.'
But as she recovered with ice packs on her face, Kim insisted: 'We're all good.'
The treatment is so-called because it uses the patient's own blood to make improvements to the skin.
The plasma from the blood is then extracted and used in the non-invasive procedure, with the aim of rejuvenating the skin.
The technique is an updated version of the traditional 'vampire facelift', which involves a series of painful injections into the face.
The show also saw the 32-year-old star turn private detective as she helped  track down a missing teenage girl.
It came after she went for a 'ride-along' with North Miami cops after telling how she wanted to solve crimes.
'I'm like fascinated. I have this sick, twisted fantasy about investigating stuff,' she said.
'If I wasn't doing what I'm doing now I would totally be a crime scene investigator.'
Her wish came true when she went out at night with the North Miami PD.
'It's a little scary because you never know what calls are going to come in, but it's really exciting,' she said.
And she got straight into the swing of things by asking to be handcuffed.
'I just want to see what it feels like,' she said. One of the female officers obliged and explained how some of those she arrests manage to move the handcuffs from behind their backs to above their crotch.
'I can't get it over my butt!' said Kim as she tried to do it.

Reeva 'met her ex-boyfriend just two days before she was killed... and Pistorius interrupted them twice'

Model Reeva Steenkamp met her ex-boyfriend two days before she was gunned down, it will be claimed in a television show to be aired tonight.
Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius - who is currently on bail after being charged with her murder - reportedly twice interrupted the meeting between the model and the man she went out with for five years, Warren Lahoud.
Miss Steenkamp, 29, was shot through the toilet door by Pistorius, in the early hours of St Valentines Day.
He claims he had thought she was an intruder.

Mr Lahoud, who runs a South African vegetable exporting business, said he met his former girlfriend for a coffee in innocent circumstances.
But he reveals in BBC Three’s documentary 'Oscar Pistorius…What really Happened?' - due to be aired at 9pm tonight -  that the Paralympian known as the Blade Runner twice telephoned Miss Steenkamp within twenty minutes during their meeting.
Mr Lahoud, who lives near Johannesburg, said Pistorius knew about him and had even met him.
He said: 'I’ve met him twice and there was never anything negative out of it at all. (It was) fine…no problem at all.'
But he did ask her about Pistorius telephoning her twice on her mobile during their get together.
'I said is everything ok. "I mean he’s phoned twice already, every twenty minutes". I asked her that question. She said "there’s nothing wrong".'
It comes as friends close to Pistorius claim he is a ‘broken man’ on the verge of suicide, and as his lawyers battle to get his bail conditions relaxed.
In the same documentary family friend Mike Azzie, who has known the athlete since he was a child and who trained racehorses for the star, said the sportsman was a 'broken man' after he was tasked with selling his racehorses to raise money to pay for spiralling legal fees.
Mr Azzie said Pistorius regularly talks about Steenkamp as he awaits his next court appearance on June 4.
He said: 'He just always seems to mention Reeva and to ask us to pray for her and her family.
'But most of all, you've got to understand that we are there for him and we will always be his friend.
'He has no confidence in his tone of voice and he is just a man that is almost like someone that is walking around in circles and doesn't know where he is going.
The 'Blade Runner' has denied murder, claiming he shot her through a bathroom door thinking she was an intruder in an innocent accident.
Police are keen to study text messages on Miss Steenkamp's iphone 5 in the days leading up to the shooting and Mr Lahoud confirmed he and his ex-girlfriend had exchanged text messages in the days before they met and up to the shooting.
'She contacted me and we met up for a quick coffee, and that was it.
'We did (exchange text messages), to meet up the previous week. It was just a hello, how are you, and that’s it, and I suppose that led up to meeting me.
She seemed fine. We didn’t really discuss personal relationships, it was more a friendly thing. 'She didn’t seem unhappy. She always told me that she wouldn’t be with anybody that she felt unhappy with, or she wouldn’t allow herself to be with somebody like that.
'I’m actually glad that we did meet now.  I’m very glad that I did see her.
'She was unbelievable from the beginning. She really captured everything of me and was a great person.
'Reeva had a beautiful loving heart, she gave everything, and was friendly to everyone. She really made you feel good and welcome.
'In a matter of conversing with her for a few seconds you’d feel like you’ve known her for years.
'That was how Reeva was.  Very open and loving and full of fun.'

Asked if she gave any indication that there may have been problems with her relationship with Pistorius, he said they did not discuss him.
'It was just random.  She asked me how business was going, I asked her how her modelling was going, what she’s doing, where she’s at, how things are.
'It was that kind of friendly chat, it wasn’t anything specific we met for. Just a catch up of what’s going on, and how our families are.  That kind of stuff.  You know, nothing specifically intense or anything like that.'
He said if he had a chance to ask Pistorius about the shooting he would say: 'Why? Why did you do it? What happened?
'Other than that I can’t really comment on what’s there, or what has happened, or what I feel.
'I’ll leave that to the justice system, and their findings. Nobody knows, it’s all in their hands, and we just have to wait and see what happens.'

Mr Lahoud said he would be giving police a statement.

He said that during his five years with Miss Steenkamp, he could not remember her locking the toilet door when she went to the bathroom.
Pistorius, who is facing a murder charge after admitting shooting Reeva, insists it was an accident and that he believed his girlfriend was asleep and that an intruder had broken into his home in Pretoria.
He released four bullets through the locked toilet door with the model suffering a wound to her arm, body, finger and head.
Detectives accept his story that he used a cricket bat to break down the toilet door when he realised Reeva might be inside.
His friend and business partner Mike Azzi told the BBC: 'If you ask me do you believe Oscar could do it, I’d have to say no.
'Because I’ve never ever seen that side of him.  But in life there are those moments of madness, where people just are uncontrollable, and I pray to god that that’s not the case with him.'
Patrick Roux, the security chief at the Silver Woods estate where Pistorius lived, said :'I think we’ve got as good as a security as any other estate in at least the heart of Pretoria region.'
He said there had been no crime on the estate since a robbery took place in November 2011.
Pistorius is said to be selling his racehorses, cars and property to help finance the legal battle to prove his innocence.
His case is due to resume on June 4 and he has been released on bail.
In court papers, lawyers for the double-amputee athlete argued against the requirement that he surrender all passports and travel documents, and refrain from applying for such documents pending the end of his case.
Officials will visit Pistorius at his uncle's home at least four times a month, according to James Smalberger, chief deputy commissioner of the department of correctional services.
He said: 'He's not under house arrest, but his movements need to be known to us so that we don't pitch there and he's not there.
'We agree on 'free time' normally during the course of the day, and in the evening we expect him to be home.'
The appeal against the bail conditions also objected to the requirement that Pistorius refrain from using alcohol or any banned substance, even though he had no intention of doing so.
'The mere use of any substance with alcohol in it will give rise to a transgression of the wide condition imposed,' the appeal said.
In addition, the runner should be allowed access to the property at Silverwoods Country Estate where he shot Steenkamp, once the state completes its investigations there within a 'reasonable time limit,' according to Pistorius' legal camp.
'A blanket restriction on speaking to residents is unfair' and infringes on Pistorius' rights to consult people on the estate to prepare for his trial, the appeal said.
Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair had set bail at 1 million rand ($113,000). The 26-year-old track star was also ordered to turn in any guns he owns, and cannot leave the district of Pretoria without his probation officer's permission.

The Entertainment Industry and 2015 General Elections

Article written by Smith Adekunle, a guest Blogger

The drums are rolling, everyone is getting ready, but before we troop out to dance; let us know which music to dance to lest we dance to the gallery and miss the essence of the carnival. The General Election in our country has always sparked various interests, yet the people have always missed a chance to state their wants, our politicians just read out their manifestos if they have any or simply make promises as "the spirit" gives them utterance.
The Nigerian Entertainment Industry is blossoming and promising as our practitioners are been recognised all over the world, bringing home accolades and making us proud yet all these is due to the individual efforts of these few spirited people.
For those that have closely followed this industry, you would ascertain and understand the predicaments of this booming industry. You would wonder why an industry promising and able to at least lend a shoulder to uplift the National GDP does not have a Federal blueprint.
Why would an industry that if well managed could create more than 5 million direct and indirect jobs, thus absolving a huge chunk of the growing number of employed people.Understandably, it is not everything that the government can make possible.
In the areas of Laws and Regulations; the Copyrights and Trademark Laws are outdated and largely not enforced.Pirated works of the artistes fill the streets and no one bats an eye, you hardly hear the police clampdown on these pirates and if they do, the offenders are released through the backdoor. We often hear hoodlums harass practitioners for safety money popularly known as "owo-ile" without which their equipment is damaged or vandalized.
I have never supported the idea of the government doling out money to this practitioners because it does not address the main issue, the solution is providing a conducive environment with revised laws that cover the lacuna in the old ones and adequate protection of their physical and intellectual properties ; thus giving them the leeway to their all without looking back.
Also, access to loans for their business should mapped this a capital intensive industry, the government can guarantee such loan they has for farmers which is most commendable.
The dependence on crude oil revenue is dangerous with the clamour for alternative energy like natural gas, biofuel, solar to mention but a few. We should move beyond calling these practitioners for election campaigns, interviews and candidate endorsements. The practitioners should ask the candidates what their blueprint for the industry is, as we can bear the verbally impulsive promises no more.

This porn star isn't happy that he has to wear a condom on SET

“Boy next door” porn star James Deen said having condoms mandated on set is “a huge violation of my rights as an American citizen.”
Deen said on HuffPost Live Monday that the mandate, which passed in LA as Measure B in November, restricts his artistic vision.
“Let’s say I want to make a movie about a husband and wife trying to have a baby … How am I going to make that movie with condoms?” he asked. “Regardless of if you see it as art or not, it’s constitutionally protected.”
The 27-year-old porn icon was quick to say that disagreeing with the mandate does not mean disagreeing with condoms. “If you’re going to have sex with someone in a bar, you should use a condom,” he said. “If I have sex with someone outside the industry, I use a condom.”
But the adult film industry is different. “You are basically in a fluid, locked relationship with people that are all getting tested every 14 days with the highest standards of equipment, and there’s a database backing everything up, and everything’s cross referenced about who’s worked with who and what happened here and you can pretty much cut anything off,” he said. “We’ve had zero HIV transmissions in over eight, nine ears. Our system works, and it works really, really well.”
It seems like defending his industry and profession is part of Deen’s job description these days. Just last week, the actor stirred controversy by giving a lecture at his alma mater, Pasadena City College. The school closed to lecture to the public, saying the professor who booked Deen failed to secure a permit. The professor disputed the claim, saying he did have the correct permit.
Deen has also defended himself against criticism that his fanbase includes teenaged girls, including minors.
“If there was a 15-year-old girl, an underage girl, an underage guy, an underage person that is viewing a scene that I’m in or any sort of porn, chances are they’re doing that because either they’re curious. They’re horny, whatever it is,” Deen told ABC. “They’re sexual enough that it is something that they desire, that they crave, that they want, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing.”n

Bloggers Will Destroy My Relationship With Tiwa Savage – Fiance Teebillz

Since Teebillz and Tiwa got engaged, after denying over and over again that they were in a relationship, new gist sprung up that Teebillz already had two kids from a woman based abroad, with pictures to prove it.
Well, here’s what Teebillz has to say about his love children rumour:
“I wonder why some jobless people want to destroy my relationship. Since I proposed to Tiwa, these sets of destroyers have been on my neck. Without me granting them interviews, they fabricate all kind of lies about our union. Some would even go to the extent of quoting me, even when they never got to talk to me. It’s all a lie. I have never been married and I don’t know why and where they got the pictures from. Rumour mongers and bloggers especially, are beginning to show how inexperienced they are on this job. I wonder if this people have any good thing doing.”

Giggs proud to reach career milestone: click on the link for the full gist

After failing to make the Manchester United squad for Saturday's Premier League win over Norwich, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has promised Ryan Giggs he will reach another impressive milestone at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
A Champions League encounter with Real Madrid is a fitting way for Giggs to make such a landmark appearance, although Ferguson is refusing to say whether the veteran Welshman will start or be introduced from the bench.
"I am obviously proud of playing that many games," said Giggs, whose 931 United appearances are supplemented by 64 for Wales and four for the Great Britain Olympic team. "You set out different goals at the start of your career. First you want to get in the team, then stay in it. Then you want to win things. You never think you are going to get to 1,000 games.
"I have worked hard and had a lot of things go for me; the continuity of the manager and playing with good players. And as I have got older, I have taken more things in. For instance, I remember the second Champions League win in 2008 more than 1999. You enjoy things like that and dwell on them a lot more."

Giggs' performances this season have already been rewarded with a one-year contract extension that will take him past his 40th birthday.
His career has attracted tributes in the past week from a host of luminaries, including FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
Even in the heat of battle at the Bernabeu three weeks ago, Giggs' introduction was greeted with a standing ovation from the home supporters, who recognised a career that transcends normal boundaries.
"It was strange," said Giggs. "As I was going on to the pitch, my concentration was fully on doing well for the team and trying to make an impact. I did recognise what happened but I only really thought about it afterwards. I thank the Madrid fans for the welcome they did give me. It was something special."

The need to sustain Eagles' Triumph in South Africa

Nigeria first won the africa cup of nations in 1980 when she hosted the event,  it took nigeria another 14years to lift the trophy again and that was in 1994 when tunisia hosted. The senior national team known as the super eagles also qualified for the FIFA World cup for the first time, they crashed out in the round of 16 to Italy, and got there highest Fifa ranking to date, they ranked 9th in the world. From that time things began to go wrong with the team and constant changing of coaches did not help matters. Nigeria qualified for the 1998, 2002 world cups, failed to qualify in 2006 and managed to qualify for africa's first world cup hostin but in all failed to make an impact. Nigerians had to wait for 19 good years before the Eagles won another AFCON title which they won after beating burkina faso 1 nil in the final. After winning the third AFCON title what next. The nigeria football federation should give coach steven keshi his technical crew maximum financial, material, logistic, and moral support to anable him sustain the tempo, the national sports commission should go back to school sports(academicals) to fish out talents of tomorrow. The government and politicans should stay clear of football and sports in general were they use compilmentry cards to impose misfits on the coaching crew. Football administrators should revamp and reorganize our various leagues in the country to help the coaching crew get the best for our national team the super eagles. Muliti national companies and well meaning individuals should sponsor our football and not wait for a trophy before splashing the cash. If all these are put to work we wont have to wait another 19 years for a trophy.  Lewachi arinze(lonestriker sports).

Woman gives birth to a tortoise after being pregnant for 10 months

A tradomedical practitioner in Lagos has claimed that a 20-year old woman delivered a tortoise and a baby girl in his clinic.

The woman, Rasheedat Raimi, said she had carried the pregnancy for 10 months before she eventually delivered the baby girl and the tortoise at a trado-medical clinic on Mutairu Street, Off Ijegun Road, outskirts of Lagos. She was in pains as she talked to P.M.NEWS about the strange delivery.

"I came to Yakafi for prayers because of the terrible pains I was having in my stomach. Immediately I got here, prayers were offered and immediately there was a burst of water and blood under me. The tortoise came out with the placenta and the baby came out later. I couldn't believe my eyes, but I was very weak. I was happy the pain left me. I felt relieved after the delivery. I thank God," she told P.M.NEWS slowly.

On whether she attended ante-natal clinic before the delivery, the young woman said: "I carried the pregnancy for 10 months. I did scans several times and nobody told me that I was carrying tortoise in my womb. What they always told me was that I am alright and would deliver at the right time," she added.
"This is amazing, but true. She did not register with my clinic for ante-natal. When she came here with her people, she was in pains, we didn't know she will deliver here. She only came here for Tahajjud prayers (night vigil). We were praying when suddenly she started wriggling. She was in pains.

"I touched her stomach and observed something strange moving inside her. It was a strange thing. I thought it was a lizard but it turned out to be a tortoise. The tortoise tore the placenta into pieces and came out. The baby came out afterwards.

"She fainted after the delivery and we had to revive her with prayers. This is what God can do. She had several scans but nobody told her that she was carrying a tortoise in her womb. God is great," he declared.
