OBJ Drags Northern Govs, CBNGov, Others To Abeokuta ForN350m Mosque, Arabic SchoolFund RaiserSeveral years after he handed over the reinsof leadership to his successor, formerPresident Olusegun Obasanjo on Fridayshowed that he still possessed the clout topull the high & mighty to a functionespecially northern Muslims, as he laid thefoundation of a N350,000000 (three hundredand fifty million naira) ultra modern centralmosque and arabic school within thepremises of his Presidential Library complexin Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.Obasanjo who decided to construct amosque within the premises of thecontroversial Presidential Library so as to giveit a diversified perspective, held a closed doormeeting with four northern governors beforethe event where the 2015 election toppedthe agenda and how President GoodluckJonathan would be either convinced orstopped from re-contesting to pave way for aNortherner as the next President.Eminent peronalties who were at thefoundation laying and fund raising ofOlusegun Obasanjo Baytus Salam centralMosque were four governors from the North.They are Kebbi,Usman Dakingari, KanoState, Rabiu Kwakwanso, Sokoto, AliyuWamakko, Katsina state governor, Shehu-Shema Shetima who was represented byhis deputy; all of whom donated N20 millioneach for the construction of the mosque.Others that contributed toward the buildingof the mosque and arabic school were theSpeaker of the House of Representatives,Aminu Tambuwal who pledged N2 million;Chairman of Dangote group of companies,Alhaji Aliko Dangote who promised N25million; former governor of Kebbi State,Senator Adamu Aliero who also pledged N10million.Bereaved ex-governor of Kwara State,Senator Bukola Saraki, also pledged N2million while Obasanjo’s former vice, AlhajiAtiku Abubakar, also sent a sum of fivemillion naira pledge towards the constructionof the mosque.The Central Bank of Nigeria governor, MallamLamido Sanusi who appeared in histraditional regalia, donated N5 million.Other States that contributed to theconstruction of the mosque were Adamawa,Niger, Kaduna, Katsina Zamfara, Kogi, Kwaraand Ogun States respectively which all senttheir pleges of N20 million each through theSokoto state governor.Addressing the people at the gathering,Obasanjo who counseled religious people tobe tolerant and accommodating said “Ibelieve that the more you know your God,the better you will be able to serve him.“I believe that, if you are at the fear of aparticular religion, you must be educated inthe destiny of that religion.
