Very few African acts can bounce backsuccessfully after a hiatus. It is no longernews that General Pype is one of such acts. As his new single ‘Give it to me’ continues towin more hearts, one thing is certain :General Pype will be remembered as theReggae artiste who breaks creative barriersand can stand his own .Obalende Records and General Pype wantedto give his fans and friends a wholesometaste of his music last Wednesday at Industry Nite and did not disappoint. As forthe crowd that filled Oriental Hotel’s AfricanBar, from their response, it was obvious hecame though on his promise — albeit a bitlater than expected as his performance cameafter that of the the likes of Trigga, Lil MissMiss, Diana Bada, Dokta Frabz, Chyme HD,Ade Piper, Tilla Man, Elixy, Tenim of Salt ofthe Earth Band, Benny Paladin , D’Prince andmany more acts. The ‘Champion’ crooner mounted the stageto a live play of the chorus of MI’s Teaser –the track that edged him into ourconsciousness with back up andinstrumentals from The Salt of the EarthBand . It was a rather energetic performanceas General Pype performed his yet to bereleased single – ‘Victorious Man’ which wasfollowed by a bubbly rendition of the fastpaced ‘My Desire’ – a ragga medley he iscurrently promoting alongside ‘Give it tome’. Next up of course was ‘Give it to Me’which was followed by a live rendition of‘Champion’ where YSG’s Vector joined him forthe first time ever on stage. Their jointperformance climaxed with both mendelivering the Late Da Grin’s verse from theChampion remix tracks. The night was graced by industry heads suchas Dele Esan, Deji Awokoya, Don Jazzy andBobby Salt of the Earth. Wande Coal, TiwaSavage, Dr Sid,TY Mix, Dammy Krane, Uzi,Shank, Skuki, Dj Sose, Jay Sleek and Kaswere also some of the acts who showed up atthe event. The event was hosted by Jimmy of Beat FMwhile music was supplied by Dj Spinall.Industry Nite is an initiative of Matthew Ohioand is supported by Spinlet, Trace Urban andBeat FM.
